Federal Law Now Bans Ticket Bots
Thanks, Obama! No, really…President Obama just did something really awesome that should make concert goers very happy.
Per WhiteHouse.gov, the “Better Online Ticket Sales Act of 2016” (AKA: “BOTS Act of 2016”) has been signed making it against the law to use computer software to purchase large amounts of concert tickets, which usually then get marked up on various ticket exchange sites.
What happens if someone gets caught using ticket bots now that the BOTS Act is a law? The government can then file suit against the software users on behalf of those affected.
Considering the prevalence of ticket bots, it’s only a matter of time before a suit comes down, but this is definitely a win for anyone that’s tried to buy concert tickets online only for an event to sell out in a few minutes, which, let’s face it, is pretty much all of us.
