Serena Williams Almost Died After Giving Birth
SERENA WILLIAMS almost died after giving birth to her daughter Olympia last September.
In a column for CNN, she said that she needed an emergency C-section, and afterward she was bedridden for six weeks from a series of complications, including a pulmonary embolism that led to multiple surgeries.
Quote, “I’m so grateful I had access to such an incredible medical team of doctors and nurses at a hospital with state-of-the-art equipment. They knew exactly how to handle this complicated turn of events.
“If it weren’t for their professional care, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Serena goes into graphic detail about the problems, which include her C-section wound popping open.
She’s sharing the story publicly to emphasize the importance of pushing governments, businesses, and healthcare providers to do more to make top-notch healthcare available for all mothers and babies . . . and to donate to charities that help protect mothers and babies around the world.
