8 Underrated Prince Songs

One year ago today (April 21), we were all shocked at the news that legendary singer Prince had passed away. To honor the life and talents of the wonderful musician, here are 8 of his most underrated tunes. So, turn up the volume and jam out! He can definitely see you singing from heaven!

1. Darling Nikki

First heard in his movie, Purple Rain, the song was directed towards Apollonia Kotero’s character. The song starts blaring as soon as she decides to sign with his rival, Morris Day. This is one of those tunes that you can have on repeat and will never get sick of the song.

2. The Beautiful Ones

“The Beautiful Ones” definitely shows off Prince’s singing abilities. Just saying, we think this would be an unreal karaoke song.

3. Trust

We feel like this song does not get enough credit. Best known for being a part of the 1989 Batman soundtrack, we can only think of Jack Nicholson making it rain.

4. Adore

Prince-Adore with lyrics

Prince-Adore with lyrics Baby, yes Until the end of time I'll be there for U U own my heart and mind I truly adore U If God one day stroke me blind Your beauty I'd still see Love is to weak to define Just what U mean to me From

This soulful song highlights what Princes does best…creating baby-making songs.

5. Erotic City

The beginning guitar rift makes us nostalgic for the legendary singer. His skills and talent definitely shine through in this eight minute song.

6. I Wanna Be Your Lover

He was not only a talented musician, but his stage presence was bigger than his 5 foot 3 inch stature. Watch in awe at this live recording of “I Wanna Be Your Lover” from 1982 at the Capital Theatre.

7. Controversy

Another live recording from his performance at the Capital Theatre. Entitled “Controversy” perfectly blends together 70s funk with 80s synths. We cannot get enough.

8. Sign o’ the Times

The lyrics of this song still applies to news events happening today. Prince was certainly ahead of his time. Not only with his fashion sense and music skills, but also with his forward thinking.
