Here’s What You Need To Know About Aspirin Use And Cancer
A study recently published in the medical journal Gastroenterology reveals taking aspirin over a long period of time may reduce the likelihood of developing several cancers.
To come to this conclusion, researchers conducted a study involving 600 thousand people over the course of 10 years.
The aspirin study group consisted of people who had been taking the pain medication for an average of about eight years. Non-aspirin users were also analyzed in the study as well.
The findings showed that aspirin users were nearly 50 percent less likely to develop liver or esophageal cancer, 38 percent less likely to develop gastric cancer, 34 percent less likely to develop pancreatic cancer, and 24 percent less likely to develop colorectal cancer.
Researchers also found that there is a correlation between taking aspirin and a reduction in leukemia and lung and prostate cancer, however, aspirin usage did not reduce the likelihood of bladder, kidney, or breast cancer.
Doctors believe aspirin reduces the risk of developing certain cancers because of its anti-inflammatory capabilities.
