Cosby Show star, Geoffrey Owens says that Bill Cosby’s sexual assault scandal is what caused him to have to work at Trader Joe’s. Owens says that after The Cosby Show was pulled from syndication, he suffered financially. ‘I have to do something’ and I was thinking, ‘What can I do?’ and the answer ended up being Trader Joe’s, which is actually a wonderful situation for me in many ways,” says Owens.
Owens spent 15 months working at Trader Joe’s and was spotted by a fan who took a picture of him and shamed him on social media.
The social media frenzy brought fellow actors to his defense, including Tyler Perry who offered him a 10-episode deal on his OWN T.V. show, The Haves and Have Nots.
“That was one of the elements that led to my getting to the place where I said to myself, ‘I have to do something’" https://t.co/vd2rMLvkIF— Page Six (@PageSix) September 10, 2018
Owens will start shooting with Perry next week but says if he has to return to a regular job, he will, “I’m going to persevere. And even if that means, that eventually when all this hoopla dies down, I might need to take another job outside of the business. I’m still willing to do that.”
