Gay Valedictorian Kicked Out of Home Gets Help from Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen Helps Gay Valedictorian Georgetown University student Seth Owen, who came to fame in July after coming out gay, got a huge surprise from Ellen Degeneres when he appeared on her show. In July, the 18 year old graduated from high school, but wasn’t able to afford the $20,000 bill for Georgetown, so one of his teachers started an online fundraiser that raised over $141,000. While on Ellen, Owen told the story of how he was ostracized by his parents because he was gay. The story soon got national attention and Georgetown gave Owen a full scholarship. Ellen added to that by presenting him a check for $25,000 toward the scholarship fund that Owen started with the money from the fundraiser! Cool gesture Ellen. What issue has ever caused a rift between you and your parents? Have you ever been so upset with your parents that you stopped speaking?
When Seth Owen came out to his parents, they put him in conversion therapy. Now he’s the one changing people’s lives.
