As stigma around talking about breast cancer publically faded away, the topic started to make its way onto our television sets. Here are five shows that addressed breast cancer.

Playing House

An amazing comedy written by best friends about best friends, its third season chronicled a breast cancer diagnosis for Emma (Jessica St. Clair) that’s actually based on St. Clair’s real-life diagnosis. Breast cancer wasn’t just addressed honestly, it was addressed with humor.

Parenthood

The Bravermans are legendary for making fans ugly cry, and one of the ugliest cry-worthy plots in the NBC series came when Kristina was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sex and The City

Samantha’s breast cancer was first discovered when she was getting a breast implant consultation. In typical Samantha fashion, she handled it all in style. Who could forget when she took off her wig while giving a speech at a breast cancer benefit? (Warning: NSFW language ahead.)

All In The Family

This iconic series was one of the first shows (if not the first show) that featured a plot that talked about breast cancer.

Beverly Hills, 90210

The iconic teen drama wasn’t afraid to tackle important topics right out the gate, and in episode 18 of season one, Brenda goes through a breast cancer scare with the SATs looming.
