Perhaps you’ve come across an item or two touting the health benefits of downing a daily shot of apple cider vinegar.

But does it really work? Some of the claims include better digestion, a healthier immune system, reduced appetite, balanced blood sugar, and even weight loss. Not so fast says the Mayo Clinic, noting there isn’t much evidence to back that up, and worse, it could wreck the enamel on your teeth plus damage your esophagus and lungs. Taste of Home says if you still insist on ingesting a gulp, perhaps try diluting it or better yet, use apple cider vinegar in your recipes.
