BARCELONA, SPAIN – APRIL 07: A Barcelona jacket hangs from a bunk bed inside one of the bedrooms of the youth players inside La Masia at the Camp Nou stadium on April 7, 2011 in Barcelona, Spain. La Masia is the heart of the Barcelona’s youth system and a residence for young players that had to leave their home behind to train at FC Barcelona in both a sporting and intelectual way. Coach Josep Guardiola and players such as Lionel Messi, Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta have lived at La Masia to become the stars of today’s game. Because of the succes the name La Masia is now simply used to refer to the Barcelona youth players. (Photo by Jasper Juinen/Getty Images)

Pod People Pay $1,200 a Month to Share Bunk Beds The latest hip, overpriced trend has arrived on the West Coast. A company called PodShare sets up subscribers with places to sleep in Los Angeles and San Francisco, charging as much as $1,200 per month.

While that might sound like a good deal, it should be noted that the "pod" in "PodShare" refers to a bed -- specifically, a bunk bed. For $1,200, a renter gets part of a bunk bed in a dorm-style room with several other strangers. Also included in the "deal" is a locker. a tiny TV in each pod and access to wifi.

And, of course, the opportunity to become intimately familiar with a group of complete strangers. Podster Stephen T. Johnson, 27, says he believes the arrangement is the way of the future. "I think anyone that's staying in arrangements like this is just early to a new form of housing," Johnson says. "There's so many different living arrangements and I think this will just be one of the available options to everyone in the future."

Would you be comfortable living openly with strangers? Do you have a roommate horror story?
