Miami Beach had a special 50th birthday gift for Jennifer Lopez.
JLo turned the big 50 and to celebrate, the city of Miami Beach declared July 24 as Jennifer Lopez Day Wednesday afternoon.
City officials Mayor Dan Gelber and commissioner Michael Gongora presented her with the key to the city , according to Lopez’s publicist and Gongora. JL was inscribed in the customized golden-hued key. The event took place at the Coral Gables home of Alex Rodriguez, the former baseball player and her fiancee.
“This [key] isn’t for your amazing career and all of the skills that you have in so many areas,'' Gelber said . “It’s really because inside what you have done for our community is remarkable.”
Gongora also applauded Lopez for being an advocate for Hispanics and the LGBT community which he is a member of.
“So it’s not just about your fabulousness and your talent. It’s about the fact that you use your platform to give back to others and inspire them as you’ve inspired me,'' he said. “On behalf of the mayor, myself, and the entire commission, we are thrilled to proclaim that July 24, 2019 will forever be known as Jennifer Lopez Day in the city of Miami Beach!”
