An Indiana couple have been charged with neglect of a dependent, but they say she was no child they believe that she is a 22 year old mentally disturbed adult
Kristine and Micheal Barnet says that her family was scammed into a situation similar to the movie “Orphan” where a mentally disturbed adult poses as an orphan who gets adopted by a family.According to court documents, the Barnetts adopted a Ukrainian-born girl named Natalia, in 2010. At the time, she was believed to be 6 years old. Prosecutors say that three years later the couple legally changed the girls age from 8 to 22 and left her in Indiana while they moved to Canada. In an interview with Daily Mail Online, Kristine say’s that Natalia terrorized the family, she tried to stab them while they were sleeping, and once tried to push her towards and electric fence. Kristne also says’ that Natalia was a woman because she had periods and adult teeth. Natalia has a type dwarfism called spondyloepiphyseal, which makes her age difficult to accurately record without a birth certificate. After a year long investigation the Barnet’s have been charged and are out on bond.
