Halloween Tips and Tricks

Perhaps surprisingly, October 31st has become a popular date to get married.

In Akron, Ohio, the Municipal Court offers couples the opportunity to tie the knot and officiate weddings at the Akron Civic Theatre on October 31st. Last year, 16 couples were married on Halloween, according to Ohio.com. Or, you could get married at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado — it was the inspiration for the Overlook in Stephen King’s The ShiningViva Las Vegas Weddings. Naturally, Las Vegas has a bunch of places to tie the knot, including (“Where weddings are a scream!”).

Among ideas for couples making it official on Halloween, The Knot website shares some great ideas for taking your love to the dark side.

  1. They recommend sending creative Halloween wedding invitations like Tarot cards and open coffin boxes reading, “Till Death Do Us Part.”
  2. For the dress, play with deep colors and antique embellishments for a moody, gothic feel.
  3. Ask your makeup artist for Halloween wedding makeup specifically, come to them with a few dramatic ideas, like a darker smokey eye or a deep plum lip color.
  4. Outfit your wedding party in rich, deep shades like charcoal, burgundy, black or plum.
  5. For your bouquet, think dark roses, blood-red calla lilies, black feathers, then add branches and tons of candle votives to the tables for the ultimate Halloween wedding centerpieces.
  6. Have your bartender concoct a batch of party punch with dry ice in it. The smokey effect will be downright enchanting, and guests can help themselves to as much as they please.
