Under new rules from the Dept of Agriculture, pasta is now a vegetable. Pasta made of vegetable flour may credit as a vegetable, even if the pasta is not served with another recognizable vegetable.
The Dept says this change will help reduce food waste because students were given too much fruits and vegetables and throwing it away.
Experts say it will lead to higher fat and sodium content in children’s meals.
