Child dead after Facebook group urges mom not to give Tamiflu
Thanks, in part, to the power of the internet, a 4-year-old boy is dead. The child died after his mother was urged by anti-vaxxers on a Facebook group not to give her son Tamiflu.
The child died Wednesday in Colorado after suffering a 102-degree fever.
The Colorado Times Recorder reports the boy’s mother declined to fill a doctor’s prescription after members of “Stop Mandatory Vaccination,” a Facebook group run by anti-vax activist Larry Cook, suggested the child would be “better off” using home remedies – such as placing sliced cucumbers or potatoes on his forehead, taking vitamins, elderberries, and breast milk.
The paper reports the mother’s posts have been deleted from the group.
She also has another child. Neither had received the flu shot.
Group members suggested skin-to-skin contact and elderberries instead of Tamiflu. https://t.co/tSDbs5HgRD
