Coronavirus in Southwest Florida: The latest info, helpful resources

If you think you have symtpoms of the coronavirus and want to get tested, figuring out what to do next can be confusing and overwhelming.

According to NBC News, the Florida Department of Health asks that you call your local health care provider or county health department before going to a hospital to determine if you need to go in for testing.

To be prioritized for testing, the patient must meet the state’s criteria, which evaluates a combination of symptoms and risk factors. If you don’t meet the criteria, you can discuss with your provider about getting tested at a commercial laboratory like Quest or LabCorp.

You should generally receive your State lab results within 24-48 hours. Commercial labs can take three to four days.
