With everything from sporting events to movie releases to primary elections getting postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, the people at Snopes looked into what would have to happen if the Nov. 3rd Presidential Election had to be postponed.

First off, the President can't move the election by executive order alone.  It would take either an act of Congress to modify the Presidential Election Day Act, or all 50 states individually approving a new method of choosing electors.

Even if that were to happen, the election couldn't be put off more than a couple of months.

The Constitution declares that the President's term ends on Jan. 20th, and changing that would require a Constitutional Amendment - which is almost impossible to push through in just a few months.

A more likely scenario would be simply to have people vote by mail-in ballot instead of traveling to the polls.
