Tampa “Stay At Home” Order Could Come Today – Could We Be Next?
Tampa residents might have more restrictions coming in the fight to control the spread of the coronavirus. In a press conference, Mayor Jane Castor said the city may issue a stay at home order if Governor DeSantis doesn’t do so first.
That means non-essential businesses would be forced to close. Businesses deemed essential – that includes grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, restaurants (delivery and takeout only), and obviously hospitals, would still be open. Tampa officials will meet at 1:30pm Monday to make the call.
According to The Department of Health, there were 763 positive cases as of Saturday here in Florida. 12 have died from complications. Several University of Tampa students have now also tested positive for the virus. Mass testing in Tampa could start in the day or two in the parking lot of Raymond James Stadium or the Florida State Fairgrounds, according to Fox 13.
No word on what that means for us here in Southwest Florida, but if the rest of Florida becomes “Shelter At Home”, we’ll likely follow suit.
Stay safe everyone, and wash your hands.
