Eat French Fries Twice a Week Belgium’s potato industry is asking the country’s citizens to eat French fries twice a week in order to save the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. Belgium – which is crazy about their national dish, frites – is at risk of losing over 750,000 tons of potatoes if people don’t start chowing down a little more.
The lockdown has slowed the demand for potatoes. One potato insider told CNBC that the industry hopes to create a campaign asking Belgians to eat more fries, particularly frozen fries, to avoid food waste – and money lost.
