Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that will allow college student athletes to get paid for their name, image, and likeness.  The bill goes into effect July 1st, 2021 and makes us the first state to pass such a bill. DeSantis made the announcement while speaking at the University of Miami on Friday.

In April, the NCAA announced that it supported rule changes, but Florida is the first state to make a move on it.

Other states may soon follow the lead or get left behind. Let’s be real, if you’re a highly recruited college player wouldn’t you choose a state where they’ll pay you to play?  This could be a huge deal for Florida college sports teams if other states don’t get on board.  Heck, maybe even the University Of Miami could have a decent team again.  Maybe.
