Wow.  The state of Florida has more than $2 billion in unclaimed funds waiting for the owners to come forward and take what belongs to them.

It could be a forgotten bank account, maybe an insurance settlement, refunds, safe deposit box, maybe a deposit from a utility. The thing is, 1 in 5 Floridians have money waiting for them, and it’s free to claim it. Around $323 million dollars was returned to residents last year. Florida is holding $2 billion in unclaimed money. Check if any of it is yours.

The state of Florida is holding more than $2 billion in unclaimed property waiting for rightful owners to come forward and take what belongs to them. Of that, more than $835 million is right here in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties, the state's CFO Jimmy Patronis says.
