A Florida man pulled a stunt that has landed him in jail for a long time. Per XXL, Aaron Barnes-Burpo was sentenced to seven years in prison after pretending to be a member of the Wu-Tang Clan and swindling several prominent hotels out of $300,000.

According to court documents, Aaron and his pal Walker Washington “falsely portrayed themselves as affiliated with the Roc Nation production company and the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan as early as September 2019, and used those fictitious representations along with fraudulent and stolen credit cards to rent luxury limousines and defraud hotels, caterers and production studios of thousands of dollars in goods and services in multiple cities, primarily in the Southeast.”

In 2019, staff at an Augusta, Georgia hotel became leery of the duo and notified the FBI and local Sheriff’s Office. Afterward, their scam began to crumble.

Barnes-Burpo was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Washington is still awaiting sentencing. In addition to prison time, Aaron must repay the money to the 19 businesses he defrauded.
