Lil Nas X's ‘Satan’ Nikes contain a drop of human blood. Yup, you read that right!
There's been a tweetstorm of people having a problem with Lil Nas X new music video “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”
The music video shows the rapper dancing provocatively with a devil character. Lil Nas X is then pictured snapping the devil's neck, before removing his horned crown and putting it on himself.
Now the online outrage has moved over his new Nike sneakers called “Satan Shoes.”
The classic Air Max ’97’s are part of a collaboration between Lil Nas X and New York-based art collective MSCHF.
The shoes are limited edition with only a stock of 666 pairs, each individually numbered in red embroidery and have one drop of real human blood.
The controversial references don't stop there. The selling price is $1,018 a pair which is a reference to the Bible scripture Luke 10:18 that reads: "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven."
The shoes sold out almost immediately.
Nike told CNN News that it was not involved in creating the modified sneakers.
"We do not have a relationship with Lil Nas or MSCHF," the company said. "Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them."
The rapper responded to the backlash with a video on Youtube titled
"Lil Nas X Apologizes for Satan Shoe" where he seems to sincerely apologize, but after a few seconds, it cuts back to a scene from the new music video.
Then on Twitter, he responded with "I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the shit y'all preached would happen to me because i was gay," he wrote. "So i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves."
