In an update to the story, the Clewiston principal who paddled the first grade student, Melissa Carter, recently received a letter from the Florida Department of Education. If you need the backstory, here's the original news report. Skip ahead if you already know.
The family's attorney tells TMZ that the principal has received a letter from FDOE that states "its investigation found probable cause for sanctions ... which could include a fine, probation, suspension or revocation of her teaching license." Losing her teaching license would essentially mean that she would be fired. The attorney also states that the child is in physical therapy and seeing a therapist.
The Hendry County school district has a no corporal punishment policy. If you want to read the statement from the FDOE it is here. It's a scanned PDF that was sent to the news stations.
I'd anticipate the Clewiston principal, Melissa Carter, will be fired as the district prepares for what is probably an upcoming lawsuit.
