Condo partially collapses near Miami Beach, at least 1 dead
A massive search-and-rescue operation is underway after a 12-story oceanfront condo tower partially collapsed early Thursday morning in the town of Surfside.
The building, located at 8777 Collins Avenue, houses more than 80 units and collapsed around 2 a.m.
Police in Miami-Dade confirmed that at least one person has died, with many more lives feared in danger.
Daniella Levine Cava, the mayor of Miami-Dade County, said it was too early for investigators to know what caused the building to collapse.
