Disney Releases New Trailer For Its Latino-Themed Movie ‘Encanto’ Set In Colombia
Walt Disney Animation Studios released a new trailer, poster and images Wednesday morning introducing fans to its Latino-themed animated movie called “Encanto.”
The all-new original film tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto.
The entire family except for one, 15-year-old Maribel, has extraordinary powers. Maribel struggles to find her place in her family until their magic becomes endangered. She then uses her ordinary gifts to save their home.
“I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride,” said Stephanie Beatriz Beatriz, who is the voice of Mirabel. “As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all.”
The trailer also highlights the Colombian setting, music and even the food. An arepa con queso made its debut as part of the Disney canon.
The new trailer includes an original song from the film, “Colombia, Mi Encanto,” performed by 17-time GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winner, singer, songwriter and actor Carlos Vives, who’s a native of Santa Marta, Colombia.
