According to the Red Table Talk, Will Smith will not be joining the table anytime soon to discuss his infamous Oscars slap.
Red Table Talk hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Adrienne Banfield Norris, and Willow Smith returned Wednesday (April 20) for season five with special guest Janelle Monáe. However, before the ladies of the red table sat down with Monáe a title card addressed the infamous Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing,” a title card read at the beginning of the episode. “Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls. Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring, and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest.”
After the title cards were shown, the show continued with a pre-taped segment that was filmed before the Oscars on March 27.
Following the incident, Will resigned from the Academy, “I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,” he said in a statement.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences later banned Will from all Academy events for 10 years for slapping Chris Rock during this year’s show, according to Page Six.
“The Board of Governors has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” they announced Friday (April 8) per the outlet.
Following the Academy’s decision, Will Smith told Page Six in a statement, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”
