The Giant 400 Foot Ferris Wheel at ICON Park in Orlando Lost Power, Then Caught Fire, 62 People Needed Rescued
Ok, first up, I am totally afraid of heights. So the idea of getting onto a 400 foot ferris wheel would probably be a no for me. So at ICON Park in Orlando, they made it a little easier. People ride in enclosed pods. That’s right, you can actually move around in them. So this seems less scary. Until something goes wrong.
So check it, you’re 400 feet in the air and you look down and see this going on (some language in this video. tell the kids – “earmuffs”):

This is how 62 people spent New Years Eve. 62 people trapped inside 20 different pods inside this giant wheel. If they name ICON Park sounds familiar, this is the same park where that kid fell off the free fall ride and died back in October.
Fortunately all 62 of the riders got off the wheel ok, but check out the pictures from Orange County Fire Rescue. Can you image having to climb down off this ride?
I guess when you go out on New Years Eve you’re looking for a memorable time. And hey, with all the rescue personnel on scene you get to meet lots of new people. I wonder if the people rescued from the ride still went out for drinks. It was, after all, on New Years.
Maybe next year, check out the wax museum next door.
