Florida Is Home To The #1 Deadliest Road In America
This probably won’t come as a shocker to those who spend time on our Florida roads. Our roads in Florida were bad enough before the pandemic, with snowbirds here half of the year during season. In the aftermath of the pandemic, the entire country seems to have relocated to Florida and the traffic shows.
Here in Southwest Florida, not only are we seeing increased traffic due to the snowbirds, but those displaced by Hurricane Ian have now moved inland and need to share our roads. In addition to the traffic, there is endless construction going on across the state. It never seems to end. A new bridge here, an overpass there.
The folks over at Find My Plate conducted a study to find out which roads in America are the deadliest. Nearly 40,000 fatalities are reported on our roads each year and are the leading cause of deaths to those under the age of 30. Many of these accidents are caused by cell phone usage, wreckless driving or other concerns of the driver, but some are caused by hazardous conditions on our roadways.
Not only is Florida home to the deadliest road in the country, we also have two more. The deadliest road in America is Route 1, running along Florida’s east coast. Coming in at number 3 is I-4, located entirely in Florida and spanning 132 miles. Finally at number 17, we have I-95, which I did expect to rank higher on the list, running north and south along the east coast of the United States. Check out the full report here and see what other roads made the list.
