Christopher Walken Oscar Award Winner

The Oscar Awards were held over the weekend and we saw many actors and actresses walk away with the most coveted award of all movie awards.

Ironically enough, it was today that I found out that Oscar Winner Christopher Walken has ties to Southwest Florida, dating back to the 1970's.

Walken's family had a home on the island before his parent's passing.

And his brother was on Captiva, at The Bubble Room, watching the awards show when Walken won his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in 'Deer Hunter' in 1979, according to a blog written by Karen Bell & The Bell Team.  His costar, Robert DeNiro, was up for the Oscar for 'Deer Hunter' that same year, as lead actor, but lost out to John Voight for his performance in 'Coming Home'.  A huge celebration broke out following his win.

How cool is this???   Walken beat out actors Bruce Dern, Jack Warden, John Hurt and Richard Farmsworth, according to IMDB.

Christopher Walken would go on to score another Oscar nod in 2002.  This time, for his role in 'Catch Me If You Can', alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

Ultimately, he didn't win, and the Oscar award went to Chris Cooper for his Best Actor in a Supporting Role in the movie 'Adaptation'.
