The best shopping trip ever for this Florida man! According to WFLA, a man has won a million dollars from a scratch-off ticket. No, you didn’t read that wrong, it actually happened. Giovanni Salazar, a 44-year-old from Cooper City, was simply picking up some groceries at Publix when he decided to test his luck with the 500X the Cash scratch-off game. And boy, did it pay off.
The Florida Lottery reports that Salazar claimed his prize at their Miami District Office, where he received a lump-sum payment of $820,000. Let’s just say he won’t be clipping coupons anytime soon. Salazar’s odds of winning were 1-in-267,739, which are probably better than your chances of finding a parking spot at a mall during the holidays.
Salazar bought his ticket from the Publix located in Cooper City, which will receive a bonus commission of $2,000 for selling the winning ticket. Suddenly, everyone wants to be that cashier who sold the lucky ticket. I can imagine them thinking, “If only I had sold him that stale bag of chips instead, I could be $2,000 richer right now.”
The Florida Lottery even had a good sense of humor about the whole thing, tweeting this:

The 500X the Cash scratch-off game is apparently the best way to become an instant millionaire, with odds of winning at 1-in-4.50. Of course, those odds are still not in your favor, but hey, if Salazar can win a million dollars while grocery shopping, anything is possible.
