Florida’s Most Popular Pet That’s Not A Cat Or Dog
Wide Open Pets recently detailed what the most popular pets in each state are. Unsurprisingly, in Florida, dogs have the number one spot. But USA Today has a report that shows the most popular pet in Florida besides a cat or dog.
What Are The Options?
You might think that a fish or a bird would be the most common response. However, that is not the case in the Sunshine State. If you are thinking hamster, guinea pig, or chinchilla, you are on the right track. Surprisingly, the guinea pig was the next most popular pet in twenty different states. In fact, every region except the southeast has the guinea pig as the most popular pet after a cat or dog. In Florida, the answer is not as shocking.
Bearded Dragon
If a cat or a dog is not an option for you right now, or you’re simply looking to think outside the cage for your next pet, the bearded dragon is the most popular in Florida (besides dogs and cats).
The lifespan of this rodent pet is five to seven years. Standard stores like Petco or Pet Smart sell bearded dragons for under $40 (in-store only). Then, you must buy the tank, food, and supplies separately. What’s unique about these pets is that they typically live 8 -15 years, as PetKeen points out. They also detail how providing two different areas of their tank is crucial to their health. Once corner should be cool (75-80 degrees), while the other should be warmer (96-110 degrees).
“These lizards are truly a sight to behold, and they can be a serious joy to keep as pets,” PetKeen says.
Florida Has 2 of the Best Neighborhoods in America
Florida has some great spots to live. As it turns out, two of those areas are among the very best neighborhoods to live in America.
This is according to a new study reported by Niche. According to the publication, “The ‘Best Places to Live’ ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall livability of an area. This grade takes into account several key factors of a location, including the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics, and access to amenities in an attempt to measure the overall quality of an area.” The two most important factors, according to the states on Niche.com’s website, are the higher education rate and the cost of living grade.”
Niche.com adds, “The same methodology is used to produce the Overall Niche Grade for each ranked place.” They also got statistics mainly from the U.S. Census, and those stats “represent the most recent data available.” What’s nice about this study is that they used actual numbers and facts, instead of just going by reviews or a vibe. They add that, “All Niche reviews and data are scored and standardized so that each place is comparable. We then assign each place to a cohort based on population and urban clustering.”
