Florida Now Ranks As The 5th Most Active State In The Country
I feel like I could help out more but I’m stuck behind a desk all day. Florida ranks as the 5th most active state in the country. How is this determined? According to CDC, federal physical activity guidelines for adults should be: 150 minutes of moderate (or 75 minutes of vigorous) aerobic activity and two days of muscle strengthening per week. I’ll admit that I fall short of this. But according to the data, Florida is way better than most states about staying in shape.
FloridaBet.com took a dive into CDC data to discover America’s most active states. Placing #5 is Florida, with 27% of residents hitting the guidelines (the US average is 23%). That’s right, according to CDC physical activity guidelines, only about 1 in 4 Americans are considered “active”. I really feel like we’re destined to end up looking like the humans on Wall-E.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Income also seems to play a significant factor, with a higher income correlating to increased activity in the US:
There’s a tremendous disparity showing up with income and activity levels.
I can only speculate as to why. They’ll need to do some additional research on this. But as for Florida, we’re doing a much better job at staying active than most other states on the Most Active State list.
As for me? I fast walk from my car to my air conditioned office. Then back. Then drive to someplace else air conditioned. It’s so hot my dog doesn’t even want to go for a walk. My neighbor gets up early and runs. I don’t know how he does it.
