Unbelievable Meth-Infused Golf Cart Heist Lands Florida Duo in Jail
It’s not every day you see someone making a grand getaway in a golf cart designed for leisurely strolls around the green. According to the Villages News, Megan Nicole Blackmon, 34, of Fruitland Park, apparently thought it was a hole-in-one idea.
Now, you might be wondering why anyone would steal a golf cart. Well, it turns out that Megan Blackmon has quite the adventurous spirit. She’s suspected of snatching a snazzy blue golf cart from the Freedom Pointe parking garage in The Villages back in 2021. Who needs a getaway car when you can have a getaway golf cart, right?
Her golf cart accomplice:
Oh, but it gets better. It’s not like she embarked on this daring escapade alone. She had an accomplice in this golf cart caper. His name is David Robert Andrus, age 42. He had the distinct honor of being the lookout while Blackmon drove off with the prized cart. Andrus spilled the beans on their golf cart misadventure during an interview in 2022 when he was already in the clink for a different case. Master crime stuff here.
Andrus revealed that Blackmon was the mastermind of the sale of the stolen golf cart in Citrus County and received a bunch of meth and $250 bucks. So, you could say she traded her golf cart for a golf cartload of trouble.
Surveillance footage from Freedom Pointe parking garage played a starring role in their downfall. It revealed that the owner had committed the ultimate golf cart sin… Leaving the keys in the ignition. Blackmon was initially chilling in the Marion County Jail on an unrelated theft charge, but her criminal escapades caught up with her. She was promptly transferred to the Bushnell jail.
So,this daring theft will go down in criminal history as one of the most unusual heists ever attempted. Who knew golf carts could be such hot commodities?
