Last night was The Big Game and while there are mixed reviews on Kendrick Lamar's performance, here are 5 Super Bowl halftime shows that blew us all away.

When it comes to the Super Bowl, there are so many exciting things from the lead up to the game, the pre-game performances, the halftime show and the game itself. And even for those that aren't football fans, or don't have a team they're rooting for, the halftime show is something everyone gets excited to watch. When I heard that Kendrick Lamar was performing at Super Bowl 59, I was kind of surprised. While he certainly is popular, it's not exactly mass appeal like some performers in the past. It wasn't my favorite I've seen, but there was plenty going on on stage, a few songs that I knew and adding SZA was a nice touch. Her voice is incredible.

Maybe last night's performance makes your top 5 of all time, or maybe you hated it. I've gone down the rabbit hole of Facebook comments, and there are plenty of mixed reactions. But here are 5 Super Bowl halftime shows that blew us all away.

Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake

While these are in no particular order, I feel like the Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake halftime show in 2004 is one that people will never forget. It was the night of the big wardrobe malfunction or "nipplegate". In fact, it was after this performance that a 5-second delay was put in place so something like this won't happen again.

Michael Jackson

When the King of Pop performs, people watch. And while in 1993 I was only 8 years old for, I was an 8 year-old that loved MJ. He played all the hits and a big stand-out moment is when he brought all the kids on the field to perform "Heal the World", over 3000!

Prince

The moment from this performance in 2007 that is absolutely iconic was when Prince was starting "Purple Rain" and it started downpouring. No one could've planned that. It was actually the very time first time that it had rained during a Super Bowl halftime show.

Katy Perry

Who can forget Left Shark in 2015? This was a fun one filled with her hits, plus special effects and even fireworks. Plus, having Missy Elliott join her on stage was awesome.

The Rolling Stones

For those that say that rock bands never get to play the Super Bowl halftime show, let me remind of you The Rolling Stones performance back in 2006. This was just straight up rock and roll and for someone like me who has never seen The Stones, it was like getting a mini concert in the comfort of your own home. Usually we see acts playing a montage of all their hits, but these guys did it different, performing just 3 songs, but each in their entirety.
