On Feb. 10, 2025, motorists saw a big change at Colonial Boulevard and Six Mile Cypress Parkway in Fort Myers. The Florida Department of Transportation rolled out its diverging diamond setup, bringing a major shift to local traffic patterns.

Crews changed the intersection overnight, putting in a system that changes how cars make left turns. This update looks to reduce the backups that regularly stretch onto I-75.

The new setup comes with some restrictions. Drivers heading south on Ortiz Avenue now have to turn right at Colonial Boulevard. The same goes for people driving north on Six Mile Cypress Parkway.

The entire project should be done in the next few months.
