A huge wave pool is coming to Cape Coral's Sunsplash Family Waterpark this Memorial Day weekend. The 160,000-gallon attraction kicks off their summer season on Saturday.
The Paradise Coast Wave Pool offers more than just waves - it comes with a huge video screen and plenty of space for events. "It really will completely change the park. It's something that Cape Coral residents have been wanted for a very long time... It'll be very exciting and fun," said Ron McKenzie to Fox 4 News.
Starting March 14, people can come every day through March 30 during spring break. After that, the park will only be open on weekends until summer hours kick in.
Besides swimming, the new area doubles as an entertainment space. A deck wraps around the pool, making it perfect for concerts and community events. Staff plans to use the video screen throughout the season for special programming.
In a first for the park, they're staying open until Thanksgiving week. This longer season helps meet the growing number of locals and tourists looking for year-round fun.
While past spring breaks have been busy, park officials think they'll see their biggest crowds yet when the waves start up in May.
Adding this wave pool shows how far the park has come since it first opened. As Cape Coral keeps growing, families have more options for outdoor activities.
