Black mould buildup in the corner of an old house
At East Pointe Place, black mold spreads throughout homes as residents beg the Fort Myers Housing Authority for help. The dangerous mold now covers cabinets, bedding, and bathroom fixtures.
In February 2025, NDC Property Management began checking units in Phase 1. Their team plans to clean each unit while residents stay elsewhere during work.
Per a statement from the Housing Authority to Fox 4, Rick Elwood, senior vice president of NDC Property Management, shared that as the contracted maintenance organization, the company is committed to the excellent management of the properties under its umbrella.
High turnover at the housing office has hindered communication and resolution, frustrating residents. Most residents won't buy new belongings, worried that the mold will ruin them too.
Martin Armstead stays in his living room, staying away from his mold-covered bedroom. He's skeptical about having to relocate for remediation as he's already been relocated once before. He told Fox 4, "It could be a sign of some change, but I wasn't quite sure, due to the fact of the letter said that they might relocate you, so to a whole other facility. That's how I got to this facility being relocated."
