Wonder Gardens just received $1.3 million from Florida's State Funds Appropriation to construct a new event center. State Rep. Adam Botana helped secure this money.

The building will host private events, like parties and weddings, and educational programs. Plans include an on-site kitchen, extra public restrooms, an entry point leading into an adjacent aviary, and an outdoor deck that overlooks the Imperial River and Riverside Park.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support from the State of Florida and Rep. Adam Botana, which will allow us to rebuild a vital part of the Wonder Gardens," said Neil Anderson, president and CEO of Wonder Gardens, according to Priority Marketing. "For nearly three years, we've been without a place to host educational programs and community events."

Anderson pointed out why indoor space matters when Florida's rainy season hits. "Many of our educational programs and camps are held during the summer months, when Florida's rainy season often makes an indoor space essential," he said. "This new event center will not only restore these opportunities, but it will also create a welcoming space for the entire community."

The organization has operated without a venue for educational programming and gatherings for three years. Summer programming has taken a hit because many activities line up with the state's wet season.

Wonder Gardens in Bonita Springs runs as a nonprofit zoological park and botanical garden that started in 1936. With general admission, guests can visit the 3.5-acre property. They'll see lorikeets, tortoises, alligators, and flamingos. Visit the Wonder Gardens website for more information.
