The Flamingo Lodge in Everglades National Park opened on Oct. 27, 2025. Two decades had passed since hurricanes wiped out the park's sole overnight spot in 2005.

The new structure has 24 rooms crafted from shipping containers, lifted above ground to weather coming storms and rising waters. Eight two-bedroom suites sleep six people. Twelve one-bedroom units hold four guests each. Four studios fit two visitors.

An elevator and walkway connect four ADA-accessible rooms. Each unit boasts an east-facing balcony that gazes out over Florida Bay.

A restaurant launched in early January 2026 beside the sleeping quarters. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served with a full bar. The eatery, like the rooms, uses shipping containers.

The New York Times put Flamingo, Florida, on its "52 Places to Go" list in 2024. Patricia Mazzei wrote the piece for the Times, describing how the buildings sit "now elevated and made out of sturdy shipping containers," per Naples Daily News.

The first two-story building opened in 1959. It had 103 rooms and 24 cabins. The settlement got its name in 1893 when residents picked it for their new post office, choosing the most striking bird they saw around them.

Nightly costs begin at $159 from June through October and $259 from November through May, plus tax. Stays max out at 14 days. Vehicles and vessels need a park entrance fee or pass. The marina and store stock gasoline and boat slips for those who arrive by water.
