WiLD Bunch Mornings

Will Smith accepts the Actor in a Leading Role award for ‘King Richard’ onstage during the 94th Annual Academy Awards at Dolby Theatre on March 27, 2022 in Hollywood, California.

Hey Great Day! We do not promote violence but this Will Smith story of him slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars after Rock said a joke about his wife has been trending today and we wanted to see what Southwest Florida felt about this topic. Is Will Smith a defender of his family by slapping Chris Rock after joking about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head?

Jada Pinkett Smith came out months before on her show Red Table Talk, speaking of her condition Alopecia and how it affects her life. Will Smith also told Chris Rock prior not to joke about his wife. On the air of Big Mama and The WiLD BUNCH, we did a text line poll. Is “Will Smith right for slapping Chris Rock on live television?” SWFL responded and we will provide those messages below! Do you agree or disagree?

  • Mike from Cape Coral

I think Will was in the wrong… he could have handled that off-screen. I have a disease that people joke about all the time. It was a joke, wasn’t to be mean.

  • Jane from Lehigh Acres

Absolutely not OK. That could’ve been handled behind the scenes in the Academy is just as guilty for not removing him.

  • Katie from Alva

WRONG. Where was her “defender” when she was sleeping with other men????? STAGED. No disrespect if she really is sick.

  • Theresa from Punta Gorda

I think Will was in the wrong… he could have handled that off screen. I have a disease that people joke about all the time. It was a joke, wasn’t to be mean.

  • Jake from Bonita Springs

In what world is violence like that acceptable especially in the public eye if it was you or me who walked up there and slapped Chris rock in the face we’d be under the jail.

  • Janet from Fort Myers

He was right but bad timing.

  • Nathaly from Naples

He could have handled it differently but he was defending his wife. My wife has a medical issue that if somebody ever made fun of it I would handle the current situation.

  • Tom from Naples

Freedom of speech is not with out consequence, Will Smith was right. His wife has a medical condition in life its not what you do to someone but how you make them feel that’s most memorable.

  • Nancy from Punta Gorda

If he knew about her condition he shouldn’t of did the joke. But if he didn’t know he’s a comedian that’s what he does.

  • Peter from Estero

He’s right. Would u get up on stage and make fun of cancer patients for losing their hair?… Chris was wrong.

  • Kate from Cape Coral

Yes he’s right. Making a joke of someone’s medical issue is never ok. That’s the lowest of the lows.
