You Might Not Have to Diet to Lose Weight . . . Just Eat Slower
A new study in Japan found you can lose weight without changing your diet if you just eat slower. Possibly because you give yourself more time to feel full and don’t eat as much.
This is our favorite kind of weight loss study . . . the kind that says you can keep eating all the junk you love.
Researchers in Japan talked to 60,000 people who were all trying to lose weight. They measured their waistlines and body mass, and also asked questions about their eating habits.
One of the questions had to do with how FAST they ate. 37% admitted they tore through meals . . . just 7% said they ate slower than most people . . . and the rest ate at a relatively normal pace.
The ones who ate slowly tended to have healthier lifestyles in general. But that’s not all. After the initial questionnaire, about half of the people said they changed how fast they ate. And the ones who ate slower LOST MORE WEIGHT.
So in other words, just slowing down during meals helped them drop a few pounds, even if they didn’t change what they were eating.
People who ate at a normal pace were 29% less likely to be obese than people who ate fast. And the slowest eaters were 42% less likely to be obese.
The researchers think it’s because fast eaters don’t give their bodies enough time to feel full. So they just keep eating. While slow eaters start feeling full BEFORE they’re finished and stop.
