All About Zayn's New Country Album
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter told Nylon in a new interview this week of the inspiration behind his new country sound. As we know, Zayn has been living in rural Pennsylvania for years. He tells the publication that his day-to-day routine consists of chilling on his farm, "having a glass of whiskey and listening to a bit of [Chris] Stapleton by the fire with my dog, playing guitar."
However, while he’s “proud” of his fourth solo studio album, he still worries about comparisons to other artists who made country albums, like Beyonce, Post Malone, Sheryl Crow and Steven Tyler. He tells the publication that, “People need to know I didn’t jump on the bandwagon."
What sets him apart from the aforementioned artists who dipped their toes in the country genre, Zayn seems to understand that people are "in search of a little bit more depth from the lyrics." The former One Direction boy-bander says in the top 40 charts specifically, most mainstream music feels "a bit wish-washy." He admits the songs are "f---ing fire" because they're catchy, and the top 40 tracks are just doing their job.
Zayn then doubled down on how much the "Tennessee Whiskey" singer-songwriter inspired him, as well as country legends like Willie Nelson. Of their lyricism, the English singer found inspiration from their pain, growth, and life lessons evoked in their songwriting. "I didn’t feel like there was a Chris Stapleton song that comes on and he sounds like a f—boy, right? He doesn’t do it! He’s not out here saying, ‘Bitches in the club! We’re drinking Bacardi!’"
Calling out Gen Zers and Gen Alpha, Zayn says those younger artists use that kind of terminology in their songs. Meanwhile, Stapleton, 46, gives Zayn an example of a classy, "real grown man" telling his story through music. Zayn, who shares three-year-old daughter Khai with his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, respected "the f—" out of Stapleton's songwriting style.
Zayn's 15-track album, Room Under The Stairs, drops this Friday, May 17th. This is the full tracklist:
- Dreamin
- What I Am
- Grateful
- Alienated
- My Woman
- How It Feels
- Stardust
- Gates of Hell
- Birds on a Cloud
- Concrete Kisses
- False Starts
- The Time
- Something In The Water
- Shoot at Will
- Fuchsia Sea
Room Under the Stairs marks Zayn’s first full-length solo project since 2021’s Nobody Is Listening. After leaving One Direction in 2015, he launched his solo music career with 2016’s Mind of Mine, followed up with 2018’s Icarus Falls.
5 Artists We Want To See Play The Sphere In Vegas
After years and millions of dollars, the high-tech entertainment venue that is the Las Vegas Sphere has become "a world-first immersive destination." The venue first opened in Las Vegas in September 2023, snagging U2 with an ongoing concert residency starting on September 29 and running through March 2. The band's longtime collaborator and technical director Stefaan “Smasher” Desmedt and technology partner Weka worked together to make the band’s stunning visual imagery in 4K video.
The Future of Entertainment
The Sphere’s LED screen inside the theater is 160,000 square feet, boasting 16,000 pixels by 16,000 pixels — the highest resolution in the world. Also featuring 1,600 speaker panels using spatial audio through the screen without any visible speakers in the auditorium, the venue makes those in attendance fully immersed in sound and visuals. The arena can hold up to 18,600 guests in the auditorium. It is no wonder why the company wants to expand, as it is clearly leading the entertainment industry in the right direction.
Besides U2, rumors of Beyoncé planning a Las Vegas residency at the Sphere swirled after her Super Bowl country album announcement in which she sat atop the glowing globe. Partnering with Verizon in the $50 million advertisement, the "Texas Hold 'Em" singer tries to break the internet over and over again. Taking on different personas and skills, she opens a lemonade stand, drops a "saxy" album, becomes a Twitch gamer by the handle @IamSlayoncé, a Beyonc-AI double, Bar-Bey, running for "BOTUS," on top of the Sphere atop a silver horse, and the first woman to launch the first rocket to the first performance in space. The commercial concluded by cryptically teasing the release of "new music," Beyoncé's country album, Act II, on March 29th.
According to the Sphere's website, the immersive venue will host a wide variety of events, including concerts and residencies from the world’s biggest artists, as well as films. Take a look below at five amazing pop artists who would have amazing performances at the Sphere:
