Students are heading back to Fort Myers Beach, marking the first major wave of tourists since Hurricane Ian hit. Florida Gulf Coast University's spring breakers kicked things off from March 1-9.

Students are also coming in from The University of Michigan and Stetson University. Local teens from Collier, Lee, and Charlotte counties will join the crowd during their upcoming March breaks.

“I love when everybody comes, I think it's just, like, so fun. I love it,” said Stephanie Concepcion, a spring breaker enjoying the lively atmosphere, told Wink News.

The Lani Kai Island Resort has reopened 60 rooms, while Margaritaville starts its second season since opening in December 2023. Both the Pink Shell Beach Resort and Marina and DiamondHead Beach Resort are also now welcoming guests.

Things have changed, says local artist Chester Rogers. The Lani Kai's once-thumping disco has been swapped for softer jazz — hinting at an older crowd these days.

Local business owners are feeling hopeful as tourists return.
