Ivan Reitman, the legendary producer and director behind some of Hollywood’s biggest films, has died, according to CNN. He was 75.
Reitman’s filmography as a director included Meatballs, Stripes, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and most famously, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. As a producer, he worked on Animal House, Heavy Metal and last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was directed by his son Jason.
The family — Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman — released a statement to The Associated Press: “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
The AP reported that he had died peacefully in his sleep Saturday night at his home in Montecito, California. Fans, friends and peers paid tribute to Reitman on Twitter.
