Why You Need a Hurricane Drink in Your Hand on Fat Tuesday

Sip, sip hooray! Fat Tuesday is coming up and you don’t want to miss Ja Rule at Centennial Park in Fort Myers on February 25th, 2020. Not only can you jam out to the music, but you can do this all while sipping on a Hurricane cocktail. I am sure you are wondering what even is a Hurricane drink? I am here to give you the scoop! The Hurricane cocktail is a Mardi Gras tradition that originated in New Orleans at the famous Pat O’Brien’s bar. The drink came about when the bar’s liquor distributors forced O’Brien to purchase large amounts of rum before he could get his hands on any whiskey that was a hit with his customers. Since he now had a surplus of rum, he had to figure out a way to sell it and sell it fast. He mixed the rum with passionfruit juice and added in a hint of lemon juice. He then served it in a glass that looked like a “hurricane lamp,” ultimately getting its iconic name of the Hurricane drink, according to hgtv.com. Now that we know the history of the drink, it’s understandable that no Fat Tuesday party would be complete without this drink mixture. Lucky for you, this drink will be served at the Ja Rule concert and you can also enjoy happy hour from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. If you are feeling extra excited you can create this drink at home!
