Singer-songwriter Jamie Lynn Spears attends the 50th annual CMA Awards at the Bridgestone Arena on November 2, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Jamie Lynn Spears sat down for her first interview following her sister Britney Spears’ termination of her conservatorship. Jamie Lynn, 30, spoke with Good Morning America‘s Juju Chang in an interview today (January 12), telling the anchor that she was happy when she found out Britney’s conservatorship ended. However, when the conservatorship was put into place, Jamie Lynn was 17 and about to have a baby, so she said she “didn’t understand what was happening, nor was I focused on that. I was focused on the fact that I was a 17 year old about to have a baby.”

Britney Spears’ 13-year-long conservatorship was terminated this past November, following the suspension of her father, Jamie Spears, who had overseen Britney’s estate and other aspects of her life in his role as her conservator. Jamie Lynn told Chang that she went out of her way to make sure that Britney “had the contacts she needed to possibly go ahead and end this conservatorship and just end this all for our family. If it’s going to cause this much discord, why continue it?”

Jamie Lynn was promoting her new memoir, Things I Should Have Said. Per Variety, Jamie originally announced she would be donating book proceeds to mental health organization, This Is My Brave, but the nonprofit rejected the offer for the donation, bowing to criticism from fans of Britney Spears. Press leaks reported that the working title for the book was initially, “I Must Confess,” a reference to a line from her sister’s debut single, “Baby One More Time.” After swift backlash, the publisher said the title was “incorrect” and “incomplete,” and then announced the official title for the book is Things I Should Have Said.

Jamie Lynn became emotional when discussing the rift between her and Britney, 40. While wiping her tears, Jamie said, “That love is still there, 100%. Um, I love my sister. I’ve only ever loved and supported her and done what’s right by her, and she knows that. So I don’t know why we’re in this position right now.”

Britney seems to have a response to her sister’s interview, with a new Instagram post writing, “Shall I start from THE BEGINNING???” with a photo of a typewriter, hinting at a possible telling of her side of the story.

In recent days, the pop star unfollowed her sister on Instagram, which garnered notice from her fans. See what they had to say below.
