I Guess This Is Me – “Gaming Disorder” Is Now Considered A Mental Illness
It was only a matter of time. There’s already rehab centers dedicated to the care of smartphone addicts. Technology can be a hell of a drug. The World Health Organization has classified ‘gaming disorder’ as a mental health condition. They define the addiction as ‘more than 20 hours per week’. That’s only 2 hours per night during the week and some extended weekend time. It doesn’t take much to reach that number.

Addiction to anything does have the ability to ruin lives, be it drugs, alcohol, or in this case – technology. Unfortunately professionals don’t really know how to treat ‘gaming disorder’ as it’s a relatively new phenomenon. More study is needed. Until then, if you’re like me, gotta remember to turn off the system and get some sleep.
