Would A Tropical Storm Or Small Hurricane In The Gulf Be A Good Thing?
First of all let me begin with saying that I have no background or experience that would suggest I have any idea whether or not this would be good. It’s just a shower thought I had. Also, I am a homeowner whose house took a direct hit last year. Now that’s out of the way, here’s what I’m thinking.
The red tide and algae seem to be concentrated in our area. What if it wasn’t? A storm in the gulf could act as a giant mixer, stirring up the water and spreading around all the bad stuff so it wasn’t so concentrated. Also, you know in your fish tank how the pump circulates the water to aerate it? A storm in the gulf could both dissipate and aerate the water by churning up water from the deeper parts of the gulf. I mean, it couldn’t hurt. I’ve never seen things this bad.

And now a dead manatee washes up at Cape Coral Yacht Club:

I have no science to back this idea up, and even if I did it’s not like I can “create” a storm in the gulf. But the next time an “area of interest” pops up in the Gulf or the Caribbean I may actually root for it to swing by our way, as long as it’s not a big one. A tropical storm at this point may help more than it harms. I mean, it’d have to be better than this.
