New information for parents! The American Academy of Pediatrics has come out about this about discipline.
Spanking is..... “Ineffective and Harmful”. The American Academy of Pediatrics are warning against the harmful effects of corporal punishment in the home.
The group includes 67,000 doctors advises parents against the use of spanking, and said to avoid using nonphysical punishment that is humiliating, scary or threatening.
Parents should not spank their children at all! The group said spanking is associated with increased aggression and children will be more defiant in the future. Spanking is similar to those of children who experience physical abuse and should not be done in the household.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has come out even harder against spanking children. In a new entry in the Journal of Pediatrics, the group recommends parents use "healthy forms of discipline. According to the report, those healthy forms are setting limits and expectations and enforcing good behavior instead of spanking. This new statement is said to be an update of guidelines that were first published for the journal back in 1998 that asked parents to find alternatives to spanking.
What are your thoughts about spanking? What do you think about parents who choose not to spank their kids?
