Doctors have been saying that red meats and processed meats are bad for our health and that we should cut back.

But sometimes that's easier said than done without a bit of prodding. But what if bacon cost a lot more? Researchers at the University of Oxford are calling for a "meat tax" which they believe will have the double punch of cutting consumption while raising health care funds to cover the damage to the body it causes. Oxford's Marco Springmann agrees with the World Health Organization assessment that meat is carcinogenic, adding that the government should minimize its exposure to citizens. The study results released on Tuesday calls for a 25% tax on processed meats, recommending doubling the price for richer countries.

Have you attempted to cut back on eating meat? For health or environmental reasons? What have you replaced it with?
